The sun has come out and it has finally warmed up leading to dreams of the seaside and garden! Spring is usually a time of renewal and increased energy, when we have more impetus to get things done, whether that is a spring clean, gardening, a new project or upping our practice.
As I prepare for my advanced level teacher training in the summer, I am committed to daily pranayama and meditation practice. Only 15-20 minutes long but it starts the day with some moments of stillness and a calming of the nervous system. I am still doing a physical practice, usually just rolling around on my mat and wriggling my way into what may or may not be a traditional yoga asana (!), plus working out at the gym and swimming.
I have also committed to writing a new book. Many of you will know that The Little Book of Yoga is due out in June. I have been asked to write, essentially, a 'Big Book of Yoga' which will require a lot more work. So it's good that we are in this time of greater energy and light so I have enough to give to this project. The Little Book of Yoga will be available to buy from June - date will be announced shortly!
I am working with another teacher Louise Bond to set up a low cost class in conjunction with the Town and Country Housing Association in Showfields. This follows my slight rant about yoga teacher pay and how this limits us in offering low cost or donation based classes to those less financially well off. Louise and I decided that we are lucky enough to be in a place where we can offer this. Many thanks to T&C for working with us and details will be announced when we know them.
I am still sorting out new dates for the summer season of Weekend Wind Down (Yin & Yoga Nidra) and info will be out when I have arranged dates and times. In the meantime, if you are missing out on your Yin Yoga, please come on Wednesday nights to the Yoga House 7.30pm.
Find out who you are - and do it on purpose
Part of the homework for the advanced level teacher training I am doing this year involves reading, meditating upon and writing about Stephen Cope's book "The Great Work of your Life". This is based on the seminal ancient Indian yogic text "The Bhagavad Gita", a story of a young warrior Arjuna coming to terms with who he is and what his role is in life, via a conversation with God who has taken the form of Krishna. Cope mixes in the re-telling of this story with examples of people both famous and publicly unknown to examine the idea of dharma, or purpose, and how to live it.
